Five member SIT formed to investigate Oting massacre

Following the killing of 13 civilians on December 4 between Tiru and Oting villages by security forces, The government of Nagaland has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising of five members.

An FIR has also been registered in Tizit police station and investigation has been taken up by Mon district police.

According to a communiqué issued by the special secretary to Government of Nagaland, S R Saravanan, in order to facilitate free and fair investigation of the case and looking at the complexity of the entire case, which may involve investigation at multiple jurisdictions beyond Mon district, it has been decided to transfer the investigation of the case to State Crime Police Station (SCPS) and the investigation would be taken up by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising of five members (officials).

The SIT team includes Limasunup Jamir, IGP (R) CIO, Roopa M, DIG (CID), Manoj Kumar, SP (Crime), Kilang Walling, SP, and Relo T Aye, Deputy Commandant, 15 NAP IR.

The communiqué also stated that SIT may co-opt for any other members in the police department in the team as deemed fit and the SIT would conduct the investigation under overall supervision of Sandeep M Tamgadge, ADGP (Law and Order).

Further, it stated that the terms of reference included the SIT shall immediately take over the case and visit the scene of the crime and collect evidence.

The investigation should be completed within one month from the date of registration.
