First Tribal Film Festival in Tamenglong concludes with glittering award ceremony

The best film award was shared by  ‘Ning Ngam Mak Ge’, a Rongmei film and ‘Peral Thingbol’ an Anal film with a cash prize of Rupees One Lakh.

Three-day The First Tribal Film Festival Tamenglong 2023 organised by Hornbill Entertainment Sponsored by Information and Broadcasting, government of India and supported by DIPR, government of Manipur that started on January 12 concluded on January 14 with host of awards bestowed to deserving cinema technicians, artistes and filmmakers for their exceptional contributions in the scheme film production in different dialects of the state.

The final award function of the competitive film festival exclusive for the tribal dialects but wide ranges of unique films was decorated by Janghemlung Panmei, MLA Tamenglong as chief guest and Bal Krishna Singh, direct or DIPR, Manipur as guests of honour. Promising singers from different districts presented their popular numbers before and in between the award presentation, said a press note.

Janghemlung Panmei, Bal Krishna Singh and social worker Akinsin Gangmei, district horticulture officer Chunguang Pamei, former ADC members Ramningle Pame attended the grand finale as chief guest and guests of honour respectively.

Janghemlung Panmei in his chief guest speech thanked the organisers and the person behind in holding the film festival in a  grand manner. He said this should be the beginning of new era or renaissance for tribal language films in Manipur.  The chief guest further said that movies are one of the best tools to showcase and promote own culture and tradition as well as influence the society positively.


On the conclusion note, Kachangthai Gonmei, Festival director for 1st Tribal Film Festival appealed to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, government of India and DIPR Manipur to continue providing financial assistance for future film festivals to promote the tribal film fraternity.

The jury members of the prestigious festival are Bobby Wahengbam, Maipaksana Haorongbam, Ronel Haobam and Meena Longjam, all National Film Award winning filmmakers. 27 feature, 6 short and 2 documentary films entered for an award categories. Hundreds of delegates from various districts and local thronged the public ground to.make the Grande Finale and award ceremony a grand success and memorable.
