Adamant with its resolution to boycott online classes and examinations in government-run colleges if the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 are not issued by June 30, the Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association appealed to the Manipur deputy chief minister, who is in charge of finance of the state government, and the chief secretary to “ensure immediate action” on the issue.

In a release on Sunday, FEGOCTA asserted that bringing quality education and ensuring no disturbances on the online classes and examinations in the government-run colleges are the joint responsibility of the government, teachers and every other stakeholder. Putting the blame and giving all the responsibility to the college teachers is not the solution, it asserted.

FEGOCTA appreciated and welcomed the education minister’s belated action of sending the files to the Finance Department. However, FEGOCTA appealed to the minister to be a “responsible and full time minister of Higher Education also, not just full time minister of School Education”.

The teachers’ association also requested the education minister to be proactive in implementing the national policy of UGC in Manipur.

Maintained that the college teachers are working day and night from homes both for online classes and examinations during the present COVID-19 pandemic, FEGOCTA warned that the Education Department headed by the minister should take the “sole responsibility” for any disturbances to the online classes and examinations after June 30.

The release also mentioned that the orders should be as per MOU of March 6, 2021 and Cabinet approval of June 27, 2021. There will be an Emergency General Body Meeting of FEGOCTA, online, on June 28, 2021 at 4:00 p.m, it added.

Meanwhile, All Manipur Students Guardians’ Organisation urged FEGOCTA to consider its decision to boycott online classes and examinations for the sake of the students and the prevailing situations induced by COVID-19 pandemic. However, the guardians’ organisation in a statement on Sunday, maintained that the demand of FEGOCTA is reasonable.

Drawing the attention of the chief minister and education minister, the guardians’ association urged the state government to find an “amicable solution” at the earliest.
