Essential food items distributed to families under containment zone in Thongju AC

As part of the continued humanitarian service, essential food items have been distributed to various families under the containment zone in Thongju assembly constituency under the initiative of Zilla Parishad Member of Imphal East, Seram Neken, a press release said on Wednesday. A team of dedicated volunteers distributed the packages to around 500 families under containment zone with compliance of SoP guidelines, it added.

Containment zones, where essential items were distributed today, include Pebiya Pandit Leikai, Ningomthong Nandeibam Uku, Kakwa Sairom Leirak, Uchekon Laikon, Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, Kongba Uchekon, Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Khongman etc.

Food items for 265 families under jurisdiction of the Naharol Lamjing Meira (NLM), Kongba Kshetri Leikai were handed over to the club volunteers, while 10 families under Sunlight Library Club were also given the food packages. The food packages include vegetables, onion, potatoes etc.

Social worker Seram Neken has been rendering such humanitarian service to the people of Thongju constituency since last year when the first wave of Covid pandemic hit the state. Most localities of Thongju assembly constituency have so far been affected by this pandemic. Around 30 individuals have so far been claimed by this deadly pandemic.

Recently, a Food Bank has been opened at his residence to respond to the helpline calls from the poor and helpless families. Seram Neken extended his gratitude to those individuals who have contributed cash and kind towards the efficient functioning of the Food Bank.

Besides this, lunch and dinner packets are also given to Covid patients belonging to Thongju assembly constituency, who are staying at Community Isolation centres, JNIMS and RIMS Hospitals.  Presently, around 40 covid positive patients are given hygienic cooked food by the dedicated volunteers with full compliance of SoP guidelines.

According to Seram Neken, the families of covid positive patients are facing challenges in preparing and providing food to the positive patients staying at community isolation due to curfew and their being in containment zones. So, free catering service is taken up to facilitate the affected families of Thongju assembly constituency.

Neken also appeals to all affected individuals and families to contact him for the food catering service.
