Out of 486 votes casted, David K Shimray received 354 votes and was elected as the new president of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) for a period of four years with effect from December 9, 2021. While his opponent, N Tuikhar received 132 votes.

72-years-old, David K Shimray, a native of Chingai Village has been elected as the president of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the apex body of Tangkhul community.

Cheif Election Commissioner of TNL, Shangam Hungyo announced the result of the election held at TNL Hall, Ukhrul Headquarters on Thursday.

President (In-charge) of TNL Tuisem Kamkara expressed utmost gratitude to the Election Commission, presiding officer, polling officers and representatives from various Tangkhul villages for the successful and peaceful conduct of the election.

“May this election herald a new beginning, a new relationship of peace in Tangkhul region,” stated Tuisem Kamkara. He warmly welcomed the newly elected president of TNL and appealed to the community to extend maximum cooperation for the coming days. He also wished presidential candidate N. Tuikhar, the best in his future endeavours.

The Election Commission of TNL told TFM that out of 620 electorates, a total of 486 participated in Thursday’s election. The Election Commission remarked that “today’s election is one of the most peaceful elections in the history of TNL and the credit goes to TNL Phungva, leaders of Longphang, representatives of TNL from various Tangkhul villages and cooperation from the candidates.”

Oath taking of the newly elected President will be held in the coming days in a formal programme to be organised by the TNL Executive.

The newly-elected President was escorted in a traditional style from TNL Hall to his residence at Viewland, Ukhrul followed by a dinner programme for all.
