Curfew eased slightly in Manipur but to stay till July 10

With positivity rates in the state remaining in two digits at 13.6 on Wednesday against the national average of 2.69%, the Manipur government extended for another 10 days till July 10.

According to a notification issued Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar who also holds the Chairperson, State Executive Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, the “Covid” situation in the State has improved compared to May 2021. However, a careful approach along with mass vaccination is required to ensure that the pandemic is controlled.

The government had on June 11 issued orders imposing “Curfew” and restricting the activities to only few essential services in the Districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Ukhrul to be in force till June 30.

As per the fresh notification, the following shall be allowed: (i) Agriculture Activities (ii) Horticulture activities (ii) Shops and establishments dealing with inputs like fertilizer, seeds, pesticides, mechanical tools etc and Government offices of Agriculture and Horticulture Departments (iv) NREGA activities (v) Stationery shops and Opticians outside Thangal Bazaar and Paona Bazaar may open from 10 am to 2 pm on the days when grocery shops are closed.

Further, opening up will depend on the Covid scenario and the progress in vaccination, it added.

The notification further said vegetable vendors (District administration shall ensure that spots for spacing of vendors are clearly marked complied) and grocery shops will open as per earlier arrangement on 01/07/2021, 04/07/2021, 07/07/2021 & 10/07/2021 from 7 am to 10 pm.

Hon’ble High Court may decide its activities, based on various measures taken up by the Government, as deemed appropriate, it added.
