Covid crisis worsens in Manipur with record 726 infections in 24 hours, 16 deaths

The second wave of COVID-19 pandemic seems to be in no mood to recede from Manipur. The situation seems to be worsening as the state on Friday reported yet another grim record of single day spike with 726 fresh cases and 16 more deaths. The state positivity rate has now surged to 22.48 per cent.

Active cases have also surged to 5,898 (General Population – 5722 and Central Security Personnel – 176). Out of these, 3,552 active cases are in home isolation.

In the last 24 hours ending 5 pm Friday, 16 persons aged 35 yrs (female, Churachandpur), 53 yrs (male, Imphal East), 69 yrs (male, Bishnupur), 35 yrs (male, Imphal West), 64 yrs (male, Imphal West), 81 yrs (male, Imphal East), 67 yrs (male, Imphal West), 46 yrs (male, Imphal West), 50 yrs (male, Imphal East), 40 yrs (female, Imphal East), 90 yrs (female, Imphal West), 56 yrs (female, Imphal West), 70 yrs (female, Imphal West), 53 yrs (male, Imphal West), 65 yrs (male, Imphal West), and 68 yrs (female, Bishnupur) expired at DH Churachandpur (1), Raj Medicity (1), Shija Hospital (4), JNIMS (4) and RIMS (6) hospital respectively, according to the Health Department.

As many as 716 persons (375 male and 341 female) from the general population and 10 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID19 positive cases during the period.

Imphal West (290) and Imphal East (192) continue to report the bulk, accounting for 67.32 percent of the total fresh cases from the general population. The other positive cases from the general population are from — Bishnupur (57), Churachandpur (49), Thoubal (48), Kakching (33), Noney (11), Senapati (11), Ukhrul (9), Chandel (5), Kangpokpi (5), Tamenglong (4), and Jiribam (2).

As many as 381 persons were discharged during the last 24 hours from CAPF (6), Home Isolation (291), RIMS (16), JNIMS (8), RD Wing (1), BB (17), NSU (14), RAJMED (9), SHRI (5), Bishnupur (6), Ukhrul (1), and Churachandpur (7). The recovery rate is 83.16 percent.

The total infections in the state now stands at  38,322 (General Population 34,632 and Central Security Personnel 3,690) with 552 total deaths.

As per the Health Department, a total of 1,107 D type Oxygen cylinders and 516 B-type Oxygen cylinders were made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, India reported 3.43 lakh new COVID-19 cases and 4,000 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 8 am Friday, as per Union Health Ministry. 3.44 lakh patients were discharged during the period.

The active cases now stand at 37.05 lakhs. The number of the total infections in the country has reached 2.4 crore and 2.58 lakhs deaths. 17.93 crore individuals have been vaccinated in the country.
