COVID-19: Manipur reports yet another record single day spike with 730 fresh cases

Imphal West (268) and Imphal East (208) continue to report the bulk of the new cases, accounting for around 79 percent.

As the health infrastructure in the state seems to be stretching to its limit, Manipur on Saturday reported yet another record spike with 730 (380 male and 350 female) fresh cases, a day after the state reported record 726 positive cases. The state positivity rate has slightly decreased to 21.27 percent. 

Active cases have now surged to 6,215 (General Population – 6043 and Central Security Personnel – 172). Out of these, 3,737 active cases are in home isolation. 

In the last 24 hours ending 5 pm Saturday, 10 persons aged 67 yrs (male, Kakching), 61 yrs (male, Imphal West), 49 yrs (male, Churachandpur), 61 yrs (male, Imphal West), 81 yrs (female, Imphal East), 80 yrs (male, Imphal East), 75 yrs (male, Imphal West), 52 yrs (female, Imphal West), 75 yrs (male, Imphal West), and 67 yrs (male, Imphal West) expired at Shija Hospital (1). DH Churachandpur (2), JNIMS (3) and RIMS (4) hospital respectively, according to the Health Department.

The new positive cases from the general population are from Imphal West (268), Imphal East (208), Kakching (58), Thoubal (53), Tamenglong (39), Bishnupur (38), Churachandpur (28), Kangpokpi (15), Jiribam (8), Ukhrul (8), Chandel (5), and Senapati (2). 

As many as 403 persons were discharged during the period from — CAPF (4), Home Isolation (319), RIMS (2), JNIMS (1), RD Wing (7), BB (18), NSU (12), RAJMED (10), SHRI (11), Bishnupur (2), Kakching (6), Tamenglong (3), and Ukhrul (8). The recovery rate now stands at 82.64 %.

The total infection in the stand has now reached 39,052 (General Population – 35,362 and Central Security Personnel – 3,690) and 562 total deaths. 

In the last 24 hours, a total of 1393 D type Oxygen Cylinders and 474 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur, according to the Health Department. 

Air passengers who travelled to the State on (i) May 14 by Air India AI-525 in rows 10-16 and 18-24 (ii) May 6 by 6E-524 in rows 17-23 have been instructed to inform the Common Covid Control Room 1800 345-3818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) for further surveillance and necessary testing.

Meanwhile, India reported 3.26 lakh new COVID-19 cases and 3,890 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 8 am Saturday, as per Union Health Ministry. 3.53 lakh patients were discharged during the period. 

The active cases now stand at 36.74 lakhs. The number of the total infections in the country has reached 2.44 crore and 2.66 lakhs deaths. 18.05 crore individuals have been vaccinated in the country.
