COVID-19: Manipur government reaches out to pandemic-hit state natives in Delhi

Days after student bodies of Manipur based in Delhi requested chief minister N Biren Singh for medical assistance in Delhi and NCR in view of the deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government has taken several measures through Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi to assist the population from Manipur residing in Delhi and NCR.

According to DIPR Manipur, an oxygen cylinder bank with 10 cylinders has been opened at the Bhawan. It will provide oxygen to needy patients through student organisations against medical prescription or report. The Delhi Government has made arrangements for filling of the cylinders and the Bhawan authority will assist the state natives whenever required.

On Sunday some cylinders were issued through student organisations like KSO, Zillai, Tangkhul Students’ Union, NSUD, ZSUD, etc, the DIPR release said.

Manipur Bhawan has also provided 200 oxymetres, N95 masks and sanitizers to student bodies for community use. Tele consultation facility has been provided through the medical officer of Manipur Bhawan. Moreover, COVID helpline numbers of Manipur and RIMS mental health helpline number have been shared to facilitate consultation in the vernacular language, it added.

To facilitate home based RT-PCR tests, Manipur Bhawan has tied up with a private diagnostic laboratory which has also agreed to provide a discount to all the Manipur residents of Delhi. Manipur Bhawan is in constant contact with the community through student organisations for any assistance, the release stated.

It may be mentioned that recently, the Manipur Students’ Association, Delhi (MSAD), Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) and Kuki Students’ Organisation, Delhi & NCR (KSOD&NCR), in a joint statement, requested CM Biren to provide — 20-30 Oxygen cylinders and others essential medical provisions at Manipur Bhavan for emergency cases; One ambulance/vehicle to be stationed at Bhavan House for emergency response.

The student bodies also had urged CM Biren to form an Emergency COVID-19 Response Team with resident commissioner or deputy resident commissioner as chair along with leaders of various students’ organisations as its member.
