Churachandpur police seize 1.335 Kg suspected No. 4 Heroin, one arrested

Based on input received about the trafficking of drugs along the Churachandpur – Sugnu road, Churachandpur District police have been monitoring and putting surveillance for over a month.

Churachandpur police on Thursday seized 1.335 Kgs approx. (including the weight of the plastic cover) of suspected No. 4 Heroin Powder from an individual travelling in a passenger vehicle near Rengkai Bridge, Churachandpur. 

The individual has been identified as one Thangkhomang Lhungdim (36) s/o Thangkhogin Lhungdim of Joupi village, Chakpikarong, Chandel District.

A release by the SP of Churachandpur stated that based on input received about the trafficking of drugs along the Churachandpur – Sugnu road, Churachandpur District police have been monitoring and putting surveillance for over a month. In this regard, the District police had set-up check-posts and conducted surprise checks along the stretch at multiple locations.

On Thursday based on reliable information regarding transportation of illegal drugs, a Churachandpur District police team led by inspector N Thangzamuan, Officer-in-Charge, Churachandpur Police Station under the guidance of the Addl. superintendent of police (Ops), Churachandpur and overall supervision of the superintendent of police, Churachandpur District conducted frisking and checking near Rengkai Bridge, Churachandpur at around 7:30 am. 

The release further stated that one Tata Sumo with Regd. No. MN07D 0263 coming from Sugnu side was stopped and while checking inside the vehicle one passenger was found very nervous and restless. On questioning him, he allegedly disclosed that he was transporting contraband drugs concealed inside a white cooler machine. He identified himself as Thangkhomang Lhungdim (36) s/o Thangkhogin Lhungdim of Joupi village, Chakpikarong, Chandel District. 

He further divulged to the police that the cooler was handed over to him by one Haopu at his shop in Joupi who promised him Rs. 20,000 for transporting it to Churachandpur. The vehicle and the person were taken to Churachandpur Police Station and on disassembling the cooler, 100 soap cases containing suspected No. 4 Heroin Powder weighing about 1.335 Kgs approx. (including the weight of the plastic cover) was found hidden inside, the release added. 

The person was arrested and the soap cases were seized immediately after observing all formalities. In this connection Churachandpur Police Station has registered a suo motu case under FIR No. 51(5)2021 CCP-PS u/s 21(C) ND&PS Act. Further investigation is going on, it added.
