Charlao FC of Nungbi Khullen is the new champion of Ukhrul District League 2022. In a nail biting match, Charlao FC defeated Ukhrul FC in a penalty shoot out as the match ended goalless in full time play.

Charlao FC from Nungbi Khullen is the champion of Ukhrul District League 2022. Charlao FC defeated Ukhrul FC in a penalty shootout by a score margin of 3-0.
Attending the occasion, President of UDSA, Alfred Kanngam Arthur expressed gratitude to Tangkhul Longnao, Hunphun Village Authority, school teachers and participating teams for their support and making this tournament a success. “Everyone is a witnessed how the game is being played today in a very extreme condition. Are we living with honour and dignity like our forefathers. The ground condition is the witness. If there were equal play fields and if other are ahead of us, we would admit defeat. When everything is drained and compelled us to build and start from the leftover or scratch, that is something we should never ever compromise. Let us stand up and rise together, this is my challenge to the youth. And when the next edition comes, let us come together and reclaim our honour” stated Alfred Kanngam Arthur.
Established in 2021, Charlao FC aim to create bigger space in football in grassroots level with the motto “Hayuva Harangva” (roughly translated as The Living Winner).
Manager of Charlao FC, Yaopam Kamkara expressed immense gratitude to Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA) for organising such football tournament. He also expressed gratitude to the village community for their contribution and support. “We have come this far because of the support and contribution by village community and well wishers. We will always look forward to their continued support” stated beaming Yaopam Kamkara.
Vice President of UDSA, Somyah Kasomwoshi on behalf of the Organising Committee expressed gratitude to all the 11 participating teams and Samadon Maruti – the sponsored of the tournament. He also extend gratitude to SP Ukhrul for providing security and CMO Ukhrul for providing medical team throughout the tournament. “UDSA is also immensely grateful to Tangkhul Naga Long and Hunphun Village Authority for the permission and enabling to conduct the tournament successfully through their support.” stated VP, UDSA. The final match was live stream by The Tangkhul Express in their YouTube channel.
“The District Legaue that kicstarted on June 24, 2022 concluded today. The league tournament was organised without any aid or funding from Government. Even in 2021, when UDSA hosted the district league and 29th Edition of Shirui Lily 2021- National Level Football Tournament, UDSA did not approach the Government for any financial assistance” stated General Secretary of UDSA.
Around 5000 football lovers came and witnessed the final match. Special performance by school children of Pam’s Kindergarten add more colour to the final match. Champion Charlao FC will represent UDSA at the Winner’s Cup and Runner-up Ukhrul FC will represent UDSA at the CC Meet.
