On 24 October 2022 at around 4:50 pm, two women of Poi Village namely RS Ngamreila, 30, w/o RS Varechung, and RK Ramreila, 35, w/o RK Mathotmi of Poi Village were carried away while crossing a stream called Tholiru near Challou river of Poi Village

Two days after two women were washed away by the strong current of the Challou River, one body was recovered at New Tusom over 15 km away from the tragedy site on Thursday. The search operation continued for the other woman.
Confirming the recovery of one body, Raphei Katamnao Long President Somipam Vashum said, “One body was found in the river near Mokam Luipam of New Tusom at around 01.30 pm. The body has been identified as RS. Ngamreila age about 30 years wife of RS Varechung of Poi village.”
Meanwhile, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry and Transport Minister Assembly Constituency, has extended financial assistance amounting to Rs 60,000/- each to the families of the two women. He conveyed his deepest condolences to the family of RS Ngamreila, whose body was found Thursday, and presented one Chonkhom (traditional Tangkhul shawl) at the spot where the body was found by the search team.
Somipam Vashum further informed that “Rampeo Horam and Themchuiso M Vashum of New Tusom spotted the body in the river near Mokam Luipam of New Tusom village. The body has been carried away more than 15km (airway distance) by the strong current of Challou River.”
RKL Team led by its President Somipam Vashum visited the search team stationed at the riverside of Poi Village. Somipam Vashum informed that “various search teams from neighbouring villages are camping near the riverside for the last two days in different spots. An extensive search is still being carried out along the Challou River belt by villagers from Chingai, Huishu, Kuirei, Kalhang, Challou, New Tusom, Tusom CV, Tusom Khullen, Wahong and Jessami. More than 200 volunteers are involved in the search operation.
