Kuki Students Organisation (KSO-General Headquarters) has stated that calling a section of the society foreigners/refugees is just a “conspiracy to grab their land and properties”, the very tribal lands and properties protected under the Constitutions of India.

KSO in a release issued on Monday said that the current state of affairs where communal polarisation is at its height in Manipur does not bode well for future peace and development in the state. Lately it has been witnessed that there has been an unbridled surge of anger and hatred towards people of a community by another community, alleged KSO.

“Communally charged statements and hate speeches against a particular community are every day routine and it is not nearing any end. Such hurtful outbursts that provoke communal feeling have the propensity to destroy the peace and harmony in the state” said KSO.

The Kuki sudent body pointed out that amidst the “hate mongering and communal diatribes”, it is becoming more disturbing that “BJYM Manipur Pradesh is taking the centre stage”.

KSO said that BJYM Manipur is “not an individual but a political organisation and the youth wing of the BJP Party”. “If a youth wing of the ruling party in the state started engaging in such communal attack on one of the major communities of the state, then what will become of the state is something very easy to understand, which of course is not very encouraging for the prevalence of peace, harmony, development and integrity in the state. Coming from a political organisation these communal rhetoric are unbecoming unless the intention is to fan communal flare-up and unleash a reign of terror upon a particular community” stated the release.

KSO also alleged that the State BJP party and the government is maintaining a stoic silence as if “it is patronising the divisive and communal antics of its youth wing”.

The Biren Singh led government promises peace and development for the people of the state. But the policies in the last two months of the current dispensation are “directed only towards marginalising a section of the society of the state” said KSO.

“Intolerance, discrimination, alienation are what beleaguer the lives of people of a section of the society today. The government is dividing the people to lead instead of uniting them to build up the state. Sense has to prevail with the government leadership it is far better to unite people and build than to divide people and rule. In this current state of affairs peace and development is a far cry. If the government is really for development it must get its acts together for without peace and harmony development will never take off”, stated the KSO release.

KSO pointed out that the government is too critical and intolerant of the personal opinions and comments of the common men in the social media when it has a bigger responsibility of running the state. “A junta style crackdown on social media offenders is the norm today. Some are arrested and sent to jail. If the government makes it its big responsibility to crackdown on social media offenders then it has to apply the same yardstick to everyone irrespective of the community they belong to”, said KSO.

The Kuki student body further stated that if Mark Haokip can be arrested then Barish of BJYM Manipur, Sapam Jadumani and RK Rajendro of Haomee Federation “shall be arrested too”. Until these people are arrested then justice is not served at all, said KSO.

KSO further said that it “also heard that Henkai Singsit, a former executive of KSO is being chased by the police for challenging Barish in the social media. If this is how the state government is acting with prejudice towards its people then it has to be said that something is very wrong about this government, KSO observed.

The student body warned that it will no longer keep silent waiting for the government to come to its senses to dispense justice appropriately. It will condemn and protest every wrong and every injustice meted out to the common tribal people, said KSO General Headquarters.
