In continuation of its observation of this Black Day on December 11 as a mark of protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019, the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) on Friday said that there will be display of black flags and black banners in all the important places of all the seven states.

NESO is an umbrella students’ organization of North-East comprising the Khasi Students’ Union(KSU), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU).

In a statement, NESO reminded the people of the whole of North East that on the December 11, 2019, despite the relentless opposition of the indigenous peoples of the North East against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Government of India did not pay heed and it finally through the Rajya Sabha passed the Draconian Law which is known as Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.

NESO had declared that December 11 will always be remembered as a Black Day for the whole of the North East. “This Observation is to give a message to the Government of India that we are against this Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 and also at the same time to remind our people and our posterior of yet another political injustice that the Government of India perpetrated against the indigenous peoples of the North East,” it said.

NESO called upon all the people of the North East to support this observation and at the same time to keep on fighting for the just cause which is our God given right.
