Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the death of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu on Saturday demanded a new investigation stating that the recent final report by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Special Crime Branch (SCB), CBI/SCB Kolkata was not satisfactory. The new investigating team should not include any previous “insincere” officers, it added.

The JAC Against Murder of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu tried to convene a press conference at the Thangmeiband Athletic Union (THAU) ground, Thangmeiband but police thwarted it stating that press conference could not be conducted without the permit of the District Commissioner (DC). Later the press conference was held at the residence of late Babysana.

The convenor of the JAC Laishram Gyaneshwari said that the final report that Babysana committed suicide is beyond the expectation of the people. She demanded the CBI should inquire whether the investigation was conducted properly or not. The investigating officer of the case was also changed during the course of investigation, she alleged.

She further said that the final report doesn’t mention about the identity of the person having an AB blood group — a blood sample of AB blood group was allegedly found on Babysana’s nail. Omitting of such facts which constitute as material facts amongst others has raised suspicion that the investigation was not conducted properly, she asserted.

Gyaneshwari further said that it is unacceptable that the “Medical 2nd opinion” was made imaginatively without visiting the crime scene. Contending that the establishment of the boarding of the school under the Manipur Shops and Establishment Act, 1972 was illegal, she questioned the motive of the investigating team which had omitted the angle of the punishment under the abetment of suicide.

Alleging conspiracy, co-convenor of the JAC Sapam Subhangker said that representations will be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the CBI director. He said that in order to find out the truth, even the Supreme Court will be approached.

Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) acting president Lourembam Nganbi and Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) secretary W Luwangleima were also present in the press conference.

A Class VII student of the Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur, Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu (14) of Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai, Imphal was found hanging inside her boarding room on July 19, 2019. In November of the same year, as per the High Court of Manipur a team of the CBI/SCB Kolkata began its investigation.
