Ukhrul Forest Division on Saturday organised a one-day awareness programme on Chief Minister’s Green Mission, Manipur at Halang village in Ukhrul District.
Speaking at the awareness programme, Ukhrul Forest Division ACF M Wungrin Lansing elaborated on the project implementation. He said that area or hectare would increase as per the performance of the implementing villages. This scheme would be implemented through village authority level. This year, the Forest Department will provide saplings and also monitor the progress of the entire project. The village will decide the site for carrying out the plantation and choose the species of trees to be planted. May this scheme bring unity, tranquility and development and enhance the biodiversity in the village, he added.
Headman of Halang Wungmaling Huileng informed that the said project will be taken up at Phila Ngayi, western side of the village settlement. He expressed gratitude for the initiative and for choosing Halang as one the implementing villages.
During the interaction hour, Sochipem Kasar stated that “I used pesticide and insecticide in my ganja farm. It destroys and kills the plants and acts as an agent of deforestation. Since it is my source of livelihood and sustenance, this kind of awareness programme is an eye-opener for me. I would like to give up this farming and instead opt for parkia and lemon which is suitable and favourable in my village.”
The awareness programme was attended by members of Village Authority, representatives of Halang Shanao Long and Halang Youth Council and elders.
