In a clear indication of fissures within one of the most powerful students’ organisations in Manipur All Manipur Students’ Union, office-bearers of the union’s branches in Thoubal have come out in open criticising the headquarters’ decision to dissolve AMSU Thoubal District Committee and reconstitute it.

They have issued press statements expressing displeasure over the AMSU headquarters’ move without taking into confidence all the members of the Thoubal District Committee and branches under it.

They alleged that AMSU HQ’s decision to dissolve the Thoubal District Committee is a violation of the laid down constitution of the union. They maintained that committee’s general secretary, two VPs, HRD, Organisation, Auditor, Joint Secretary (2), Asst. Secretary (2), members and the AMSU branches under the district committee (Yairipok, Khongjom, Wangjing, Leisangthem, Khangabok and Heirok) for the formation of the new committee. However, AMSU HQ has formed a new committee by handpicking their close confidants without informing all the stakeholders, they claimed. Such a move by AMSU H/Q is not a right approach, they added.

In a statement, AMSU Thoubal District Committee VP L Herojit said the action of the HQ could serve as precedent for other district committees. They could meet the same fate as the Thoubal District Committee, he added.

In another statement, Heirok Branch president Sanathoi L, Wangjing Branch president RK Priyobarta, Yairipok Branch president M Onindro Singh, Leishangthem Branch president Roshan Ninghouja, Khongjom Branch VP Rashini and Kangabok Branch president Saikhom Romio urged the AMSU headquarters to reform the committee with the participation of TDC executive members and branch members by informing them.
