The 24-hours total shutdown called by All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) was successfully enforced in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), the apex student body of Tangkhul community. No untoward incident was reported while filing this report.

Speaking to this correspondent, the public relation, information and publicity secretary of TKS informed that all business establishments remained closed and there was no vehicular movement except for medical emergencies and for picking up passengers from the airport.

TKS had fully endorsed the 24-hours total shutdown announced by ATSUM in the hill districts of the state from Sunday midnight expressing resentment over the state government’s alleged unwillingness to table The Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Councils Bill, 2021 in the ongoing Assembly.

Supporting the total shutdown, The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong in a release, said it took serious cognizance of the refusal of the Manipur government to table the HAC recommended bill in the ongoing assembly session.

“This has challenged the rights of the people of the hills as per the Constitution Article 371C”.

The TKS expressed gratitude to the public for extending maximum cooperation and making the total shutdown a success.Attachments area
