ACOAM-LUP wants strict implementation of fire safety measures at ceremonial temporary tents

Stating that the materials used in these tents for certain functions like marriage ceremonies are highly flammable,  LUP’s assistant IPR secretary Th Baleswar     said that the electrical equipment used for beautification added to the woes.

All Club, Organisation, Association and Meira Paibi-Lup (ACOAM-LUP) drew the attention of the concerned authorities, business owners and the people in general about the fire hazard that the temporary tents that are set up in public and customary functions poses. It urged for strict implementation for fire safety measures at such gatherings.

Speaking to media persons at the ACOAM-LUP office, Laishram Leirak, Lamphel, assistant IPR secretary Th Baleswar said that setting up of these tents in the ever increasing congested localities poses great threats to human lives and property around it. He also warned that if the necessary steps are not taken up in time fire hazards are eminent.

Stating that the materials used in these tents for certain functions like marriage ceremonies are highly flammable, he said that the electrical equipment used for beautification added to the woes. Without any safety measures, fire might break out at any time due to short-circuit, he added.

“Who will be responsible if any untoward incidents occur,” he asked.

Baleswar further said that a letter has also been written to the director of the Manipur Fire Services requesting for “information on Fire Safety regulation for Tent Services”. Operations of tent services without following proper fire safety regulation have become a safety concern for the society, the letter mentioned.
