State Health Society, National Health Mission, Manipur urged all the eligible 18 years and above beneficiaries who have taken the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to get vaccinated with the second dose at the earliest at the designated COVID-19 Vaccination Centres (CVC).
A release on Friday by NHM, Manipur state mission director Dr N Shyamjai Singh mentioned that the eligibility for the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine (Covishield) is between 12 and 16 weeks after the first dose. A timely completion of the vaccination schedule is important for conferring full protection to the beneficiaries, it added.
According to the latest update, as of June 10, 2021, the state has administered 5,38,943 doses of vaccine — 4,57,600 individuals have received the first dose and 81,343 received the second dose. Taking the population of the state at around 33 lakhs, while 13.87 per cent of the population has received the first dose, a paltry 2.46 per cent has been administered the second dose.
COVID vaccination drive in the state began on January 16, 2021. So Manipur has been vaccinating at an average of around 3,691 doses per day.
For the age group between 18 and 44 years, the vaccination drive began on May 17, 2021. As of June 10, just 79,146 persons have received the first dose. For this age group, one has to register in the CoWIN portal to get inoculated. But many find it difficult to get the slot for vaccination, as it runs out quickly. And sessions are not held every day in all the CVCs of the state.
Amongst the 16 districts in the state, only Imphal East and Imphal West have administered more than 1 lakhs doses of the vaccine. Kamjong has administered just 4,894 doses till date amongst all the age groups.
Almost all the sessions of vaccination planned are executed amongst all the districts except a few. Thoubal, for instance, held 751 sessions out of 801 planned sessions, as of June 10. As for Senapati, 446 sessions were held out of the planned 499.
