Federation of Haomee (FoH) demanded the state government to evict those “illegally” settling around Mt Koubru and also to resettle the camps of Kuki National Front (KNF), which is under Suspension of Operation (SoO), from that area. It also urged the government to enforce regulations in the area under the reserved forest area of Mt Koubru in order to preserve its ecology, as there was rampant deforestation for poppy plantations.

Speaking to media persons on Monday at FoH office, Kabo Leikai, Dewlahland, FoH president Sapamcha Jadumani urged the state government to provide protection to the sacred place of Mt Koubru and to immediately initiate the process to develop it as a “heritage site”. Stating that the ecology of Mt Koubru has been severely affected, he urged the government to evict the people settling around it in order to restore the ecology of the area.

Jadumani also said that the pilgrimage to the sacred Mt Koubru should not be disturbed and FoH has voiced its opinion earlier also. But it is unfortunate that an organisation called “Indigenous Manipur Tribal Students’ Union, New Delhi” has recently written a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging to arrest the activists of FoH under NSA, stating that FoH is an outlawed organisation, he added.

The FoH president further stated that when enquired to the student bodies whether there were any indigenous tribal bodies associated with the Indigenous Manipur Tribal Students’ Union, New Delhi, it was found that no one had any idea about the organisation. Since no other details could not be found, it is apparent that the said organisation was floated solely for the levelling allegations against FoH, he said and added that FoH has replied to the Union Home Ministry also regarding the allegations.

On the other hand, the government should look into the matter of foreigners settling in the state illegally and conducting illegal activities, Jadumani asserted. Lauding the Manipur police for recently pulling up individuals from Lilong who were harbouring foreigners illegally, he urged the government to find out how many foreigners are there in Kangpokpi.
