A Bangladeshi national who had been residing illegally in Manipur was arrested on Monday, police said on Tuesday. The arrested Bangladeshi was identified as Mohammed Ramjan Ali, 35 years S/O Md Jalaluddin, resident of Piyali Mari Village in Bangladesh’s Chapainawabganj district.
According to the police, they received reliable information that one non-local suspected to be a foreigner is residing in Lilong bazar area by impersonating himself to be an Indian citizen. Acting on the information, a team of Lilong PS led by OC- Lilong picked up the suspected individual and verified.
During verification, the individual identified himself as Mohammed Ramjan Ali, 35 years S/O Md Jalaluddin of Piyali Mari Village, P.O.- Manakasha , PS- Shibganj , District- Chapainawabganj , Bangladesh, police said.
On further verification, Ramjan Ali was found possessing a passport issued by People’s Republic of Bangladesh having Passport No. AE4087924. He had been residing at Lilong area without renewal/ permission from competent authority since 13.06.2017, police added.
A case under FIR No. 31(04) 2021 LIL- PS u/s 14 A (b) Foreigner’s Act has been registered against Ali.
