As many as 48 Companies including that of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), and the NAP (IR) are to be deployed for peaceful conduct of the 18th Nagaland Lok Sabha on April 19.
Talking exclusively to this correspondent, DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, also said that apart from the 48 Coys, the state police will be using services home guards and the village guards in different capacities.
Apart from pumping in the police sources from within the DEFs to ensure smooth conduct of the election, Rupin Sharma, disclosed that the state police have been coordinating with its neighbouring states and central agencies under the guidance of Election Commission of India (ECI) for the same purpose.
He further said that in the ensuing Lok Sabha poll within the state, no untoward incidents are being expected keeping in mind the approachable minds of the Nagas.
Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, sharing his concern on the security measures to be taken up said that Dimapur being a “transit”, the police, is leaving no stone unturned by taking up utmost precautionary measures with whatever is available resources to let the Lok Sabha election be conducted peacefully in the state.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dimapur, Khrusa Keyho, also interacting with this correspondent disclosed that six teams inclusive of nine Flying Squad Teams (FST) have been formed to check the inflow of any banned or illegal substances including IMFLs from across the neighbouring states and are keeping surveillances within and inter-state borders.
Sophie also mentioned that intensive patrolling and checking in the areas dominated was in full swing not only due to the Lok Sabha election but has been since then for intensification.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Crime), Dimapur, Khekali Y Sema, when asked on the recent deployment of central armed forces in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha Election, she said that the “flag march” by the security forces was to contain any eventualities and also they are guided by personnel from the nearest police stations including from GRPS, women PS and other police stations where they are to report to the concerned higher officials in the details.
