The Meitei Alliance has condemned the beastly crimes of murdering four innocent peasants by suspected Kuki terrorists on January 10.
A press statement issued on January 12 said as per media reports, suspected Kuki terrorists rounded up, looted, and murdered four peasants from Kumbi Assembly Constituency while they were on a nearby hill to collect firewood. “Later, an aerial video footage emerged that shows that these peasants were being tracked using state-of-the-art drones, which points to these murders being premeditated and carried out in cold blood,” it added.
Maintaining that it is credible to believe that these heinous crimes are an integral part of the Kuki’s offensive terrorism since May 3, 2023, the Meitei Alliance said, in the last eight months, Kuki terrorists, having fully armed with sophisticated arms and ammunition funded by profit from the illicit drug business, have been targeting indigenous Meitei to occupy land and extend the infamous (drug) Golden Triangle into Manipur.
“They have killed and injured several hundreds, displaced several thousands, and plundered and targeted vulnerable peasants. These are repetition of what they have perpetrated with disastrous impacts on the Naga (1992-97), Tamils (1995), Paite (1997), Karbi (2003-4), etc,” it added.
The Meitei Alliance further said the latest incidents reconfirm that Kuki terrorists are perpetrating crimes against humanity. It lamented that that the likely perpetrators of these crimes, Kuki terrorist groups, continue to enjoy the benefits of the Suspension of Operation signed with the Government of India since 2008 – including protection and monthly pay.
“Taking advantage of such favour, they are unleashing a reign of terror at the cost of the indigenous people of Manipur.
Meanwhile, European Manipuri Association (EMA) has expressed condemnation of the “brutal and inhuman killing of three innocent Meitei villagers. “The fourth person has not been found yet and we pray for his safe return home, it said in a press statement issued on Friday.
These villagers went to the hill areas adjoining the Imphal valley to collect firewood as they were unable to afford gas cylinders for cooking. Amongst the persons killed, included a father and son. The individuals responsible for this reprehensible act must be held accountable for their actions, said the statement.
It expressed disappointment and concern over the perceived inability of the national and state governments to ensure the safety and security of innocent lives.
Mentioning that it is also reported that there are central paramilitary forces stationed near the area where this heinous crime happened, EMA said the governments must take immediate and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice, restore peace, and prevent further loss of life.
EMA further said the ongoing armed conflict between the Meitei and Chin-Kuki communities raises a critical question: Why, despite the presence of reportedly over 80,000 central paramilitary forces stationed in the state, the Indian government has been unable to bring an end to the violence?
The continuous bloodshed underscores the urgency for a comprehensive assessment of the government’s strategies and use all the necessary means to bring the violence to an end, it added.
It urged the government to extend immediate and comprehensive support to the grieving families of the deceased, offering not only condolences but also necessary assistance to cope with the emotional and economic aftermath of this tragic incident.
Expressing solidarity with the affected families, It also urged the government to do everything to find the missing person and take swift and effective actions to bring an end to this devastating communal conflict.
