The Kuki students’ apex body has alleged that KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary Thangtinlen Haokip was assaulted by Manipur police commandos at Kalapahar in Kangpokpi District on March 3 at around 1:00 am without any reason.
KSO-GHQ stated that the KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary was monitoring the construction work of the student body’s administrative office building at Kangpokpi District Headquarters which went on till late at night on March 3.
The KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary dropped the president of Zillai in Changoubung village after the construction work culminated and returned home. While returning, he was assaulted by the police commandos at Kalapahar right after he identified himself as the KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary.
It has been alleged that the police commando personnel also attempted to snatch away the KSO General Headquarters flag which was inside the vehicle.
KSO-GHQ has alleged that the incident was another case of “misuse of power” while pointing out that the frisking and the assault of KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary, Thangtinlen Haokip was led by Addl. SP of Imphal West at Kalapahar which is under Kangpokpi district.
“How could a reputed officer in uniform make a communal statement by underestimating the student’s organization”, asked the KSO-GHQ.
Demanding stringent and appropriate action against the commando personnel involved in the alleged assault, KSO General Headquarters has asked all security forces present in the hill areas to stop assaulting innocent civilians and civil society organizations leaders without any valid reason. It was also strongly demanded the immediate withdrawal of police commandos in the hill area.
