JAC of Fisheries Cooperative Society on Thursday retracted its earlier stand and announced that it will participate in the Fish Fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition, 2021.
The decision was taken after fishery minister S Rajen Singh gave his assurance and in view of Ningol Chakouba, said JAC convenor Salam Joy while addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club.
Earlier, around 254 cooperative societies had come together and decided to stay away from the annual fish fair citing the non-payment of National Cooperative Development Society (NCDC) subsidies worth around Rs 39 crore to beneficiaries from Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching and Bishnupur districts, out of the total Rs 129 crore,
If the subsidies are not paid by November 6, the JAC will relaunch its agitations from the next day, said Salam Joy.
Recently, fishery minister S Rajen appealed to the JAC of the Fisheries Cooperative Society, Manipur, not to stay away from Fish fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition, 2021.
Rajen also clarified that beneficiaries of fishery societies under NCDC have their deal with Manipur Cooperative Society. He said that the matter is not related to the fishery department.
The fish fair will be held at Mapal Kangjeibung at the western side of Johnstone Higher Secondary School on November 5.
