Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (Tangkhul Naga Headman’s Association) has called for the withdrawal of the order issued by Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, in case of failure, the association has vowed to boycott any activities related to the Government of Manipur.
In a press release signed by the General Secretary of TNWL, stated that “induction of 9 MLAs of Meitei/Meetei to the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) is not only violating the Constitutional rights of the Hill Areas under Article 371C. At a time when the Hill Districts are fighting for implementation of the Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Bill, 2021, in the monsoon session, the induction of 9 MLAs to the HAC is a direct challenge to the Hill people of the State.
“On what basis valley MLAs are to be inducted in the Committee, when they are not a party to it.
“TNWL will not remain silent to the whole development as the heart of the matter concerns the legitimate rights of the Hill people. Direct involvement of majority Meitei to the Committee by way of induction 9 MLAs, therefore, have to be stopped because the said Bill has nothing to do with valley brethren. Such politics is bound to have a disastrous impact in the Valley and Hill Areas relation.
“The Tangkhul Naga Headman’s Association is saddened to read the bold orders issued by the esteemed Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker when the Speaker and Chief Minister has no say in the matter. Are they trying to fool the people just because they are in the hot seat? Or should we consider this as another chapter of division?
“Against this backdrop, the order issued by the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker has to be withdrawn with immediate effect. In the event of failure to heed our humble request, we will boycott any activities related with the Government of Manipur.”
