Making a complete U-turn, BJP candidate O Lohrii, who had issued a signed declaration on Wednesday withdrawing his candidature from 49-Tadubl (ST) constituency in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election 2022, said it was done “under pressure and without proper consents by some few Mao community leaders”.

Lohrii issued another statement on Thursday retracting his previous statement that I will not campaign and participate in the ensuing 12th Manipur Vidhan Sabha Election 2022. He also apologised to the BJP 49 Tadubi workers and supporters for not consulting and taking their consents for this act.

In the fresh statement, Lohrii said he commits before the general public that he will contest the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2022 and firmly stand by the BJP Party principle and ideology and shall remain loyal with the party, its workers, supporters and general public. “I shall adhere to the party directive and shall always remain loyal and trustworthy,” he said.

It may be noted that O. Lohrii had earlier said he withdrew his candidature for the interest of the Mao Community of 49 (Tadubi) A/C. He has agreed and undertaken to withdraw any political activities and campaigns from this date of this declaration.

“I, the undersigned, do hereby declare an Oath before the General Public of the Mao Communities (49 Tadubi AC) that I would not participate or contest this 12 Manipur Assembly elections have given my signature in the presence of the Public Leaders,” read his previous statement.
