Leaders of the collective of 10 Civil Society Organizations of Manipur on Sunday approached the police to initiate “swift and responsible” action against Mark T Haokip for his derogatory and defamatory comment towards the Ima Haipei Rani Gaidinliu.

IPSA, ACOAM LUP, PANDM, IPAK, KANGLAMEI, Kabui Mother’s Association, KIL, CLK, Zaliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur Nagaland), and KSA submitted a formal complaint to the Officer-in-charge Imphal Police Station against Mark T Haokip, who identifies himself as the President of an International Human Rights Association, Manipur and Coordinator Myanmar.

As per the complaint, Mark T Haokip insulted and defamed the reputation of our proud Freedom Fighter Ima Haipei Rani Gaidinliu through his social media accounts in Twitter and Facebook deliberately on 23rd November 2021.

“He has also tagged the Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah while posting the derogatory post against our iconic freedom fighter which every people of the state have the highest respect. His act of posting such defamatory and insulting remarks against Ima Haipei Rani Gaidinliu has hurt the sentiment of the people and this could lead to a very uncertain situation,” said the complaint.

The Padma Bhushan Awardee Ima Rani Gaidénliu should not be so easily insulted by an individual and it is considered seriously by the collective of CSOs as an insult to the entire indigenous population and the freedom fighters of the state, it added.

The leaders of CSOs said they were expecting an immediate arrest of the said person and punish him under the law of the land for his act, however till date even after so many days and complaints by various individuals and organizations nothing happens. Instead, he just released an apology telling lies that it was an unintentional act to use such language towards the freedom fighter, they added.

The complaint said posting a comment of such words and languages tagging the union home minister can never be unintentional but rather strategic and psychedelic in character as his later apology could be doing less recovery than the damages he made in the first place.

In order to restore the damages made by his act, the law of the land should act accordingly to teach a lesson to such a person and set an example to every one of us to not let such things happen in future again and nobody should ever dare to even think about it, said the complaint. If the law of the land fails to take any appropriate action against the scoundrel there could be civil unrest and our trust towards the law enforcing agencies could be lost in future, it added.

The leaders urged the police to take immediate action against the said culprit and set an example to defend the glory of the Freedom Fighter.
