The indefinite emergency shutdown called by the Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF) General Headquarters since 19 March 2025, due to the ongoing tension in Churachandpur district, has remained peaceful with no reported incidents of violence. However, the shutdown has significantly impacted normal life, with all shops closed in Zomi-dominated areas, vehicles off the roads, and offices and institutions shut down—except for students appearing for Class XI and XII examinations.

Late in the afternoon, a press release issued by ZSF GHQ announced that they will relax the emergency shutdown between 4:00 AM and 6:00 PM starting from 21 March 2025. The relaxation will remain in effect until further notification from the organization.

In the press release, the ZSF GHQ stated that “given that the situation in the town has improved to a large extent and all possible forms of reconciliation have been reached, relaxation of the shutdown is the only logical step forward.”

Meanwhile, an order from the District Magistrate/DC of Churachandpur, Mr. Dharun Kumar, has also relaxed the total curfew imposed under Section 163 of the BNSS. The curfew will now be in effect from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM starting today until further notice. With the improving situation in Churachandpur, it is anticipated that normal life will be restored during the daytime by tomorrow.
