Scarcity of drinking water has hit Ukhrul Headquarters once again. The populace of Ukhrul, especially students coming from far flung areas are facing the hardship of water scarcity.
The Veikhang Katamnao Long on Saturday distributed drinking water to students from the Veikhang area who are residing at Ukhrul Headquarters and preparing for the forthcoming Class X and XII examinations.
President of VKL, Ringphapam Kasar told this correspondent that the student organisation today delivered 700-1000 litres of drinking water per student at their respective residence free of cost. Around 50 students from the Veikhang area are preparing for the forthcoming board examination.
Ringphapam Kasar added that “due to scarcity of drinking water at Ukhrul Headquarters, many students, who are supposed to study for the coming board examinations, are wasting their precious time in fetching water from ponds. Most of the ponds have dried up and one has to wait for an hour or more to get a bucket of water. Our initiative of delivering water at the doorstep is simply to get more time for the students to concentrate on their books.”
VKL expressed gratitude to officers, entrepreneurs and well-wishers from the Veikhang area who have contributed generously and made this mission a success. VKL also expresses gratitude to Pamkhuila Shaiza and PHED Ukhrul Division for their support and generous contribution. VKL wishes best of luck to all the students who will be writing their board examinations.
