T Khullen villagers destroy poppy worth Rs 50 Crore

A representation by the village authority said that it organized a sensitization mission against the illegal plantation of poppy in collaboration with the village youth club. The village authority had destroyed the poppy plantation in the village land area acting as an agent and support to the so-called ‘War against Drugs’ mission of the state government.

Tumuyon Khullen village authority council along with the Tumuyon Khullen Youth Club reportedly destroyed a poppy plantation worth Rs.45-50 crores approximately apparently in support of state government’s ‘War on Drugs’ initiative over the last 3/4 days in their jurisdiction.

Acting as an agent and crusader of the Biren’s ‘War against drugs’ mission, the village authority council of Tumuyon Khullen and the village youth club had reportedly destructed Poppy plantation field measuring around 10 hectares within their jurisdiction for the sixth time over the past 3/4 consecutive days.

RK Livingson, Secretary of the village authority council said, “We have been destroying poppy plantation continuously for 3/4 consecutive days within the area of around 10 hectares which will be around Rs.45-50 crores in the national market while adding that this is the sixth time the village authority council along with the village youth club embarked on destroying the poppy plantation in our jurisdiction”.

He said that some tenants and outsiders are forcefully continuing the poppy cultivation even after repeated warnings and this time we had served notice once again to them not to continue such illegal plantation within our jurisdiction.

The village Secretary also said, “We will continue to support and cooperate with the ‘War against Drugs’ mission under the initiative of a dynamic leader Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and urge all to make Manipur free from drugs to save future generations”.

In a representation reporting the destruction of the poppy plantation at Tumuyon Khullen, signed by A. Maraiba, Chairman of Tumuyon Khullen Village Authority, and its Secretary, RK. Livingson stated that under the initiative of the village authority and youth club stern action has been taken against the illegal plantation of poppy within the jurisdiction of Tumuyon Khullen.

The representation said that the village authority organized a sensitization mission against the illegal plantation of poppy in collaboration with the village youth club. The village authority had destroyed the poppy plantation in the village land area acting as an agent and support to the so-called ‘War against Drugs’ mission of the state government.

The village authority has been conducting continuous vigilance by checking to root out the illegal plantation of poppy by mobilizing youths in the mission. It was informed that the village authority had already spent more than Rs.6 lakh in destroying the poppy plantation in and around the village land area while adding that it has also organized seminars on the war against drugs mission.

The representation was handed over by the village chairman to the state chief minister through the DC, Kangpokpi.

The village authority and youths holds placards that reads,  “Let’s make our state free from Drugs, Drug users kill their own selves, Be proud of yourself and say ‘NO’ to Drugs”, “Don’t let drugs keep you from your dreams, Let’s make a difference, don’t get drug addictions”, “Give hugs, Not drugs, Quit drugs, choose life”, “Kick off the drugs before it kicks you down and Say No to Drugs, Yes to life”, etc. during the submission of the letter.

Kengoo Zuringla, IAS, DC Kangpokpi expressed her happiness to witness the activities of Tumuyon Khullen village authority and the youths since the last 3-4 days where the youth are actively involved in the destruction of poppy plantation and rather choose “Life” over drugs.

The IAS officer also lauded the village youth to have taken such initiative and encouraged other villages to come up and take such steps so that the life of the youth are safe from danger and also from many other diseases that can occur from the use of narcotics and drugs.
