Around 20 acres of poppy cultivated area were destroyed on that day too.

A combined team of Ukhrul District Police, 6th Manipur Rifles, Ukhrul, NAB Imphal and Forest Department, Ukhrul led by SP Ukhrul and Deputy CO 6th MR Ukhrul carried out destruction of poppy cultivated areas for two consecutive days on December 14 and 15 at Champhung-Tora hill ranges, about 35 kms west of Ukhrul District Headquarters.
According to information given out by Ukhrul Police, more than 40 acres of poppy cultivated areas have been destroyed by the combined team. Over 100 personnel were deployed during the two-day operation. In this regard, a case has also been registered at Somdal PS.

The massive poppy cultivation in the hill areas of Ukhrul District is a serious threat to environment, health and social impact. Tangkhul CSOs and Churches have also shown their commitment to eradicate poppy cultivation in Ukhrul District.
The District Administration and Police alone cannot fight and win the war. State Government of Manipur must provide and equip the district police with all the required infrastructure including vehicles if we are to win this war.
