Ukhrul medical team conducts CS op on Covid positive pregnant woman, delivers baby

The mother, 38-yr old from Shangshak Village was tested COVID positive at CHSRC in the morning. Since the CHSRC does not have a dedicated COVID OT, she was referred to the District Hospital and urgent Caesarean Section operation was conducted jointly by the staff of District Hospital and CHSRC, Ukhrul.

For the first time, a medical team has successfully conducted Caesarean Section (CS) operation on a covid positive pregnant women and delivered a baby in Ukhrul District.

A team of doctors, nurses and staffs from District Hospital Ukhrul and Comprehensive Health Services and Research Centre (CHSRC), Ukhrul conducted the CS operation at the District Hospital on Saturday.

The mother, 38-yr old from Shangshak Village was tested COVID positive at CHSRC in the morning. Since the CHSRC does not have a dedicated COVID OT, she was referred to the District Hospital and urgent Caesarean Section operation was carried out jointly by the staff of District Hospital and CHSRC, Ukhrul at District Hospital.

The CS operation was conducted immediately as the mother had started labour pain and she had a history of two previous C/S operations besides having a medical condition of hypothyroidism which if not given timely medical intervention may endanger the life of the mother and the baby.

This is the first time that a COVID positive pregnancy delivery is managed through CS in Ukhrul District, informed Dr Reisangmi Raikhan, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Ukhrul.

Staff involved in the operation were Dr Yaruiyam M, Gynaecologist from District Hospital, Dr Md Nushrat, Anaesthetist from District Hospital, Dr Yashing from CHSRC, Staff Nurse, Wungreichon Shimray, Theiyaphy Marchang Staff Nurse from District Hospital and Pamsingphy Lunglo  from CHSRC, Neerupama Devi, OT Technician from District Hospital.
