In pursuance of the advice and instruction given by the chief minister of Manipur in a review meeting held on June 8, 2021, the joint survey and inspection at the field in respect of road stretches from Mongkot Chephu to Nungshang Kong bridge under Ukhrul District was carried out on Saturday.

In this regard, Ukhrul deputy commissioner Joseph Pauline Kamsom had issued an order dated July 1, 2021 to all the concerned stakeholders to attend the joint survey and inspection.

The joint inspection was carried out by District Administration, NHIDCL at Mongkot Chepu, Leingangching, TM Kasom and Finch Corner along with the stakeholders to see the classification of the area and those landowners’ names that have been missed out in the earlier orders.

Ukhrul DC Jospeh Pauline Kamson stated, “Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA) as per the provision, rules and procedures have acquired the land on behalf of NHIDCL for the construction of double-lane National Highway 202. We are partners with NHIDCL and it is making good progress. We are looking to complete the double laning on time and we are seriously monitoring the progress of the work. Isolated complaints should not obstruct the construction of work and waste the day because the window period for the working season is very short.”

“The demands and complaints by affected villagers that there has been a slight change in the alignment or right of way (ROW) and actual construction stage have necessitated this joint survey. There has been an objection by NHIDCL to classifying 3 hectares of residential land at Mongkot Chephu into a commercial area. He also acknowledged the genuineness of the complaints put up by the landowners. He appealed to the villagers to extend maximum cooperation in completing the said work at the earliest.”

Ukhrul SDO Christianhome Huileng stated that it is the desire of everyone to construct the road at the earliest. With strict instruction from the chief minister of Manipur, we have taken a joint survey today and we are hoping that we will complete the assignment smoothly and appeal to the stakeholders to extend possible cooperation.

General Manager (P), NHIDCL, PMU-Ukhrul,  Lt. Col. John Sherry stated, “We are to finish this project in time and appeal to the villagers and stakeholders to kindly extend cooperation and continue to work as one team and finish this said work.”

NHIDCL Officers informed that 70 graveyards at Shangkai village and 31 graveyards at TM Kasom were overlooked in the earlier survey and on the complaint being filed by the villages the matters have been looked into and verified by NHIDCL.

The proposed joint inspection at Shokvao, Ramva, and Changraphung Shangshak could not be carried out on Saturday because of time factors and the schedule for joint inspection will be fixed and notified in the coming days.
