The local bodies of Kangpokpi Town under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee extended the total lockdown in Kangpokpi District Headquarters till May 20.
Kangpokpi town entered the sixth day of total lockdown on Wednesday after the local bodies under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee announced the total lockdown in the town on May 7 which is to culminate on May 13.
However, considering the continuous surging of positive cases in the district and the town, the local bodies in the presence of the newly formed Kangpokpi CSO COVID Task Force decided to extended the total lockdown till May 20 in its joint meeting held under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee at its office on Wednesday.
Government offices and emergency and essential services are exempted from the purview of the total lockdown.
Meanwhile, with 17 new positive cases and three cured and discharged in the last 24 hours, the active case in Kangpokpi District stands at 92.
Inspiringly, the total lockdown in Kangpokpi town has been supported and encouraged by the denizens despite various hardships and grievances considering the alarming surge of COVID infection and fatality.
One resident of the town said, “owing to the total lockdown many hardships and grievances may crop up especially among the daily wagers like me, but, we have come to such a situation that the total lockdown at this juncture has become the only effective measure to contain the dreaded virus, and at all cost we have to manage our hardships in order to save our town from further fatality.”
He also conveyed his hope that the town authority, concerned authority and especially the locals would definitely come to their assistance because they would not let any of them go hungry while combating the pandemic.
