Indian women’s team rose to the occasion when drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur converted India’s lone penalty corner in the 22nd minute to sink the mighty Down-Under side.

India women hockey team on Monday scripted history by winning a thrilling match against a formidable team and three-time world champion Australia by a single goal. This is the first time the Indian team had entered the semis in the Olympics.

The women’s stupendous performance came after an awesome performance by the Indian men’s team. The men’s team entered the Olympic semi-finals following a 49-year gap.

On Monday morning, the Indian women’s team rose to the occasion when drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur converted India’s lone penalty corner in the 22nd minute to surprise the Down-Under side.

India’s best performance in the Olympics came way back in the 1980 Moscow Games where they finished fourth out of six teams.
