A video which falsely mentioned that during a mass COVID testing at Takyel Khongbal, out of 700 tested, 500 were found COVID-19 positive circulated on social media platforms.

Imphal West police on Sunday arrested three persons for allegedly uploading false information in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic in Manipur.
The arrested persons were identified as Thaodam Romesh (34) S/o Th Ibochou of Sekmai Laipat, Thaodem Bikram (43) S/o Thaodem Kula of Sekmai Laipat and Sougrakpam Johnson Singh (34) years S/o S Gambir Singh of Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai, Takyel Khongbal ward no.-2.
According to the police, around 7 pm on Saturday, Thaodam Romesh uploaded one video in the Facebook page “KANGLA PAO FB ENTERTAINMENT” in which it was falsely mentioned that during a mass COVID testing at Takyel Khongbal, out of 700 tested, 500 were found COVID-19 positive.
During the investigation, the police learnt that he got the video from one WhatsApp group called PYDO (Progressive Youth Development Organisation) where it was uploaded by Thaodem Bikram. It was further learned that the video was prepared by Sougrakpam Johnson Singh, citing false data in his commentary.
All the three persons have been picked up in connection with a case registered at Lamphel PS based on a complaint lodged by the district magistrate of Imphal West for making the people panicky by spreading false information of COVID-19 pandemic.
Further, Imphal West SP S Ibomcha Singh appealed to the people not to spread false information about COVID-19.
