The Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) on Thursday temporarily suspended the Indefinite total shutdown on the National Highway No. 2 (earlier 39), which is the lifeline of Manipur and the adjoining areas from 12 PM.
According to sources, the decision to suspend the indefinite shutdown was made following a deliberation with its Governing Body and Frontal Organizations on 31 March, 2022.
A statement signed by SAPO president Kevipodi Sophie and general secretary Swelul Pucho said the shutdown was suspended “basing on the Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization (TPO)” Ultimatum on Manipur to withdraw police forces from Kezoltsa and request to SAPO to lift the blockade thereof published on 31 March,2022, the Nagaland Post”.
Further, SAPO yielded to fervent requests of Angami Public Organization (APO) to lift the Indefinite Bandh for upcoming 50 years Celebrations of Angami Public Organization Golden Jubilee to be held on 8th April, 2022, it said.
However, the SAPO clarified that the relaxation and lifting of Indefinite shutdown is only temporary measures. And that, if the Government of Manipur fails to adhere to the Ultimatum served by TPO to Manipur Government dated 29.03.2022 then, the SAPO in constraint will initiate its own course of action, whereby the Government of Manipur will be held responsible, it added.
SAPO had called the indefinite total shutdown along the National Highway No.2 (Dimapur – Imphal road) which is the lifeline of Manipur and the adjoining areas since 23 March, 2022 on the demand that the Manipur Government should withdraw its armed personnel from Kezoltsa Area. It has greatly affected the lives and the livelihood of the people in Manipur.
