Bangalore Manipuri Students’ Association (BMSA) demanded to find out the truth about the death of Sanaton Athokpam and accused the state government of being “dishonest” in dealing the case.
BMSA, in a release, strongly condemned the death of Sanaton, terming is a “gruesome killing”. The student blody demanded that the authority should explain why an FIR has not been registered till date.
Condemning the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) authority for remaining silent on the matter, BMSA demanded that the director should resign and the warden of the hostel in which Sanaton was found hanging should be arrested.
The student body based in Bangaluru also demanded that the post-mortem report should be made public and the CCTV footage should be submitted to the police for investigation.
BMSA also urged the concened authorities to make RIMS a place of learning where there are no murders or violence. It also asserted that it will support in any actions taken up the joint action committee formed in connection with the death of Sanaton to find out the truth behind the death.
An MBBS student of RIMS, Sanaton Athokpam of Khurai Thangjam Leikai was allegedly found hanging in his room at Hostel Number 3 on March 15. Some of his friends brought the body to the RIMS Causality, where he was pronounced dead. Family members and Justice for Sanaton Athokpam (JSA) have been alleging that his hands were tied behind and there were several injury marks in his body. A magisterial enquiry is underway to probe the death.
JSA along with the womenfolk of Sanaton’s locality have been protesting for justice for the last couple of weeks. Major roads in Khurai area have been blocked by the protestors. Lamlong Keithel bore a deserted look on Friday.
