“Companies like Salai will continue to dupe the people of their hard earned money if the concerned authorities do not address the matter at the earliest”.

TFM Report

Salai Women Depositors’ Group on Saturday warned that they will launch agitations if the government fails to address the hardships being faced by the depositors of Salai Holdings Private Limited by April 25.

The group formed by only the women depositors held a press meet at the Manipur Press Club. The group’s president Ahongbam Ibeyaima stated that since October 2019, the Salai Holdings Private Limited has been shrouded in controversy. At that point of time the company had assured that the depositors would not lose their money.

There was some hope that the grievance would be addressed on April 2 by the company. But the announcement made by the managing director Elangbam Brojen to approach the government, since it has seized or frozen all the assets of the company, has further enraged the depositors, she added.

Ibeyaima further maintained that Salai was trusted by the public since it was launched by someone from our own community. Even, chief minister N Biren Singh inaugurated the company by cutting the ribbon and had allegedly lauded the initiative. Some intellectuals had also endorsed it. Because of all this the public trusted and invested in it. But now the opposite has happened, she lamented.

Those who invested in Salai are well-to-do, but they put their hard earned money with the hope that it would be mutually beneficial, she said.

Companies like Salai will continue to dupe the people of their hard earned money if the concerned authorities do not address the matter at the earliest, she said and urged the government to address the matter and find a solution.
