As India celebrates its 78th Independence Day on Thursday, Nagaland also joined with the rest with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio calling on the citizens to take inspiration from the freedom fighters and to re-dedicate to the task of nation building.
According to an official bulletin, Rio was delivering his speech on the occasion of the significant day in Kohima where he also stated that the state has made history by successfully conducting the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) election with reservation for women for the very first time with 37% women representation, greater than the 33% mandated by the law.
Citing it as an example of unity, Rio said that there is nothing one cannot achieve as a state and hoped to carry forward this spirit and work together to overcome all obstacles.
Stating that while the government was committed to the all-round development of the state, Rio shared that the Eastern Region of the state requires more “handholding” than the other parts while also mentioning that it was important to bridge both physical and human capital gaps that exist and the Government has an open-door policy to resolve the ENPO issue.

He added that the “Political Affairs Committee” or the PAC, constituted with the entire cabinet and elected members from those tribes who are not in the cabinet, has already held its first meeting and through the forum of Political Consultative Committees joint consultations was held with the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and Tribal Hohos to discuss on the basis of the already signed Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015, and the Agreed Position of November 17, 2017 which the government will continue to engage with all stakeholders to help reach an early solution.
As part of the 78th Independence Day celebration, Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, also launched the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS) at Civil Secretariat Plaza.
The CMLIS has been meticulously designed to offer financial security and peace of mind to families across Nagaland through free life and accidental insurance coverage.
The enrolment drive for the CMLIS commenced on 15th August will run for one month. Eligible families have been urged to verify their details on the CMLIS portal, https://cmlis.nagaland.gov.in, on or before 5th September 2024.
