A writ petition was filed regarding the quota of the recruitment of six assistant Manipuri (Meetei Mayek) language officers for Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Manipur High Court has ordered that the entire process of recruitment for appointing six posts of assistant Manipuri (Meetei Mayek) language officers, Manipur Legislative Assembly will be subject to the outcome of a writ petition filed by one Maurice Thiyam.
The joint secretary (Admin.), Manipur Legislative Assembly had issued a notification dated January 14, 2021 inviting applications from amongst the eligible candidates for appointment of six assistant Manipuri (Meetei Mayek) language officers. The grievance of the petitioners was that out of six vacancies, one is reserved for ST and the rest are Unreserved, but no seat has been reserved for persons belonging to OBC.
An order issued by Justice Kh Nobin Singh on April 7, 2021 stated that the Manipur Legislative Assembly appears to have initiated the process of recruitment and a written examination appears to have been conducted. Consequently the joint secretary (Admin.), Manipur Legislative Assembly issued another notification dated March 27, 2021 listing the number of persons who are qualified for Interview informing that interview/viva-voce will be held on April 09, 2021.
A notice has also been issued to the Maniou Legislative Assembly in this regard, returnable on April 29.
Boboy Potsangbam, learned counsel accepted the notice on behalf of the respondent Number 1 and as regards respondent Numbers 2 to 25 are concerned, it was submitted by the learned counsel appearing for the petitioners that the details are not known. The learned counsel appearing for the petitioners has been permitted to amend the cause title after the details being obtained from the Manipur Legislative Assembly, the order stated.
