Oting Village Council (OVC) has clarified that in the aftermath of the December 4 and 5 incidents, there had been contradictory statements being circulated in the social media and to clear the same the council had to issue a statement.

According to a release issued by the Oting Village Council Chairman, Longwang Konyak, it was on December 5 when the residents of Oting village were busy struggling with the crucial period related to the post mortem, a meeting with Konyak Union, funeral arrangements and receiving guests, an envelope containing an amount of Rs 18.30 lakhs (Eighteen Lakhs and thirty thousand) was brought before the village council by Nagaland minister P Paiwang Konyak and Deputy Commissioner of Mon.

The statement from the OVC said that it assumed the amount as a token of “love and gift” from the minister, but after knowing that it was an “advance payment or installment” of an ex-gratia from the state government for the victim’s families and the injured persons, it decided to turned down the “gift”.

“The village council of Oting and victim’s family will not receive until and unless the culprit of 21Para Commandos of the Indian Arm Force are brought to justice before the Civil Code of Law and repeal the AFSPA from the entire Northeastern region of India”, the statement further added.
