Oting Fallout: Thousands take part in massive Mon district protest march

The protest march was organised on the streets of Eastern Nagaland seeking justice for the victims of Oting massacre in response to a call by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO).

The streets of Eastern Nagaland comprising of the five eastern districts of Tuensang, Mon, Longleng and Kiphire and Noklak on Thursday witnessed massive protest march seeking justice for the victims of the Oting massacre in which 14 civilians killed following an ambush by the Indian Army earlier on December 4 and 5.

The mass protest march was called by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) which represents the five eastern districts of Tuensang, Mon, Longleng and Kiphire and Noklak.

A representation addressed to the President of Indian was also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Mon district. The Konyak Union (KU) said that it had served a 30-day ultimatum to address the demands in connection with the Oting massacre and warned of continuing the already declared “non-cooperation against the military forces” if justice is not delivered.

Meanwhile, A cabinet meeting of the Nagaland government scheduled to be held on Thursday has been rescheduled on December 18 in view of the protest march in Mon district. The cabinet meeting was called to discuss matters including the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) as its main agenda. On December 20, a special Nagaland Assembly session has been called to discuss AFSPA.
