NSCN (I-M) Zeilad Region has warned against any external interference in its area of operation and jurisdiction. DG Robert, Caretaker Central Administrative Officer of the outfit issued a formal notice on Thursday (25 November) cautioning outside interferences that would hamper development in the Zeilad Region, Tamenglong District.
The notice circulated in local newspapers in the name of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim, Zeilad Region, said that it had come to the knowledge of the NSCN/GPRN that “Unscrupulous elements are trying to cause unwarranted disturbances in the infrastructure development which falls under the Zeilad Region, Tamenglong District of NSCN/GPRN by demanding a huge amount of money by way of contribution for their cause”.
The notice forewarned that “No group irrespective of hills or valley is allowed to serve any monetary demand that falls under the jurisdiction of the Zeilad Region, NSCN in Tamenglong District”.
It further reiterated that, “Since many years no group has been allowed to indulge in monetary demand and shall not be allowed to show their ugly heads under any circumstances”.
It may be recalled that recently a valley based insurgent group had issued monetary demands to health officers serving in Tamenglong District Headquarters ‘requesting’ to contribute a token sum of INR one hundred thousand each as contribution towards their cause.
Suggesting smooth and speedy progress in developmental activities in the district, the notice further appealed to the external factors from indulging in any form of interferences in its area of jurisdiction. “Development should be allowed to go on without giving any extortion tension. Cooperation in any form should be extended towards developmental works and projects”, it said.
Tamenglong District is currently experiencing different developmental activities including the laying of railway tracks connecting Silchar in Assam with Imphal in Manipur via Tamenglong and Noney Districts as part of the ongoing filling in of the ‘missing links’ for the Trans-Asian Railway project that would connect West Asia with the Far East through Imphal and Moreh.
The shorter route connecting Kangchup in Imphal West District with Tamenglong District Headquarters as part of National Highway 37 by-pass is also progressing at a good pace, and this is projected to shorten the travel time between the state capital and Tamenglong town, with onward connection to Tousem, and Haflong in Assam.
