RIMS on Tuesday informed that the VRDL, RIMS will not be processing any samples for COVID-19 diagnosis as the biosafety cabinet at the VRDL, RIMS had stopped functioning since Monday.
In a circular, State Level Viral Research & Diagnostic Laboratory, RIMS, principal investigator Prof. Kh. Sulocahana Devi informed that the step was taken as a precautionary measure for the laboratory personnel and in view towards minimising the risk of contamination of the laboratory.
Prof. Kh. Sulocahana Devi also requested all concerned not to collect samples as the VRDL, RIMS will not be receiving samples sent for RT-PCR diagnosis of COVID-19 until further notice. She also urged all the stakeholders to comply with it.
A biosafety cabinet (BSC), also called a biological safety cabinet or microbiological safety cabinet, is an enclosed, ventilated laboratory workspace for safely working with materials contaminated with (or potentially contaminated with) pathogens requiring a defined biosafety level.
The VRDL RIMS along with VRDL JNIMS have been taking a crucial role in RT-PCR testing since the pandemic hit the state last year.
