Combined force of Assam Rifles, Manipur police nabs two militants

The two were apprehended in two separate operations in Thoubal and Imphal East districts on November 14.

A day after the deadly ambush in Churachandpur district, Manipur, in which five Assam Rifles personnel and the wife and son of the Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles were killed, a combined force of Assam Rifles and Manipur police apprehended two cadres of the outlawed People’s Liberation Army (PLA), one of the groups who was responsible for the ambush, and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). 

The Phundrei and Mantripukhri Battalions of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (S) in joint operations with Manipur Police apprehended the two cadres in two separate operations in Thoubal and Imphal East districts on November 14, according to sources. 

The operations were launched by the troops of AR and Manipur police based on specific inputs. The KCP cadre was involved in planting an IED Khurai on November 14, it added. 

The apprehended militants have been handed over to Thoubal and Porompat Police Stations for further investigation.
