Cutting across all barriers that the society has set up, especially to the differently abled persons, creating history in the state of Nagaland, Roko Shuya (54), is one amongst the many who will be contesting the ensuing ULB and Town council elections in the state of Nagaland due on 26 this month.

An aspirant to contest from Ward No 2, Chumoukedima district, Nagaland, Roko has faced many odds and challenges in his life eventually letting him to be conferred with the Governor’s Award for 2012-13 for his expertise in bamboo crafts.

Coming from a humble background, Shuya told this correspondent over the phone that he was at first reluctant to keep in mind his “handicap” but with the support from the people of his ward and colony people, he decided to contest the town council elections though to face many seniors as his opponents.

Bringing into bamboo crafts especially renewal and replacement of iron products into bamboo fillings within the locality and beyond, he is optimistic that despite being differently-abled, he will try to finish the unfinished works being left by the predecessors.

He also shared that his main focus is to emphasize the youth and oversee their problems while also to give importance to the old age pension schemes which have been neglected for many years citing many reasons.

It may be noted that Roko Shuya has already served as the youth president of Chumoukedima ward-1, served as chairman of Ward-2, Chomoukedima, from 2017 to 2021, and currently occupying the same post.
