Nagaland Police to face Delhi Football Club in final of Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy

The 68th Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy 2022 which started on March 24 in Guwahati, Assam, would witness exciting matches where the Nagaland Police would lock horns with Delhi Football Club (DFC) in the finals scheduled on April 3.
In the semi finals played on Friday, the Nagaland cop defeated India Club, Silchar, Assam, one to nil after the former’s captain, Limakumzuk, scored the winning goal for his team.
In another exciting semi final match, Delhi FC outshone “United Chirang Duar FC” by 4 nil.

The much awaited finale on Sunday would start at 3 pm at the Judges’ Field.
The 68th Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy football tournament, one of the oldest and most popular football championships in eastern India, was played in Guwahati, Assam, and three other venues.
Earlier, the organizers of the tournament, Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) has stated that altogether 16 teams including nationally acclaimed North East United FC, Shillong Lajong, and Delhi FC would be participating in the tournament.
While Guwahati hosted the Group ‘A’ matches, Korora in Baihata Chariali saw the Group ‘B’ matches being played and another in the categories of Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ at Ghilakuri in Sipajhar, Taikajhora in Chirang respectively.
On March 24, two matches were played – ITBP faced Gauhati Town Club (GTC) at the Judges’ Field while in the other match Daimali Club (DC) of Udalguri played against Assam Rifles, Shillong, at Korora.
The teams participated in the tournament included ASEB SC, India Club (Silchar), Assam Police Blues, CISF, Oil India FC, Bodousa FC, Nagaland Police, United Chirang Duar FC, and Assam Regimental Centre.
Meanwhile, organizers of the tournament informed that the winner would pocket Rs 2 lakh, while the runner- up would go home richer by Rs 1 lakh.
Bordoloi Trophy, also known as the Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy, is a premier annual Indian football tournament held in Guwahati, Assam, and organized by Guwahati Sports Association (GSA).
The tournament was first started in 1952 and is named after Assam’s first chief minister, Gopinath Bordoloi.
Apart from some top clubs from India, clubs from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Thailand also have participated in this trophy.
While, Abahani Limited of Bangladesh lifted the trophy in 2010, Mohun Bagan AC of Kolkata has won the tournament for record seven times since its inception while ASEB SC won the tournament for five times.
